1.1 Entry to Germany

  • For the first entry into Germany you need a visitor or general visa.

    • Temporary (e.g. 6 month)
    • Max. 90 days right of resi­dence
    • Gainful occupation is not al­lowed

    Required documents:

    • Medical certificate
    • Sufficient financial funds
    • Intention to return statement

    For longer stays in Germany you need a Green card (residence permit) of the Foreigner Office and work permit for foreign employees.
    • Temporary (e.g. 1 year)

    Required documents:

    • Passport
    • 2 photos
    • VisaCopy of lease (or a statement from the landlord)
    • Certificate of employment
    • Certificate of a German health insurance

    The Foreigner Office of Hannover decides about applications for residence of foreign inhabitants. It also informs about opportunities for stabilization of residence and takes - if necessary - such measures as extradiction and deportation to determine the residence.

    Please visit the Foreigner Office only by arrangement. It can get up to two weeks to get an appointment.

    You don't need an appointment for certificates about your residence status, for transfering your residence permit into your new passport, for extension of your visa, for extension of your passport and for matters of notification.
    You can deal with these matters
    Mondays, Thuesdays, Thursdays between 8:30 h and 13:00 h,
    Thursdays between 14:30 h and 18:00 h and
    Fridays between 8:30 h and 12:00 h.
